Description

This approach aims to present an overview of the description and its role in a narrative from the perspective of Jean - Michel Adam. The objectives consist in setting up the typology of descriptive sequences in Albert Cohen's novel Belle du Seigneur from the perspective of their functions and values in the mentioned work. The novel Belle du Seigneur by Albert Cohen appears in 1968 and is awarded the Grand Prize of the French Academy. The novel was written over a period of 30 years and when it was published it sparked criticism and controversial opinions, which still persist today. However, Albert Cohen's style is a particular one in which the description plays a special role. The description of the natural setting, characters, interior and places combine perfectly with the description of the characters’ actions creating the harmony of the novel.
