Prevalence of clostridioides difficile in strawberries from germany

  • 1. Department Biological Safety, German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), Berlin, Germany

Description

Clostridioides difficile is the most common cause of nosocomial diarrhea in humans. Community associated C difficile infections without preceding hospitalization are on the rise. Recent studies showed high genetic relationships between human and food isolates. The study’s goal was to investigate strawberries from self picking fields, since these offers often lead to the consumption of unwashed fruit directly on the field, posing a potential risk for C difficile infection.
