DUNE ND-LAr: Design and Status
Description
ND-LAr is a modular liquid argon TPC detector which features a true 3D pixelated charge readout, a first of its kind. At the heart of the charge readout is the LArPix ASIC, a custom low-power chip that instruments 64 pixels at a time connected to the anode readout plane, facilitating large coverage requirements. Due to its modularity, a modular TPC has short drift times and is optically isolated, decreasing the number of overlapping interactions. A high-performance readout system for scintillation light will provide a nanosecond-scale timing resolution. Its novel design will allow ND-LAr to thrive in the high intensity environment of the DUNE ND Complex, where O(50) beam-related interactions can be expected per 10 μs beam spill. This poster will detail of the detector design, outline the successful and ongoing prototyping efforts, and report the status and future plans for ND-LAr.
