Maximizing the Astrophysics Potentials of JUNO with the Multi-Messenger Trigger System
Description
Neutrinos possess unique advantages in astrophysical observations, thanks to their neutral and weak interacting properties, being able to probe those extreme astrophysical sites that are not accessible by light or charged particles. Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), the world-largest liquid scintillator (LS) neutrino detector, with its high light yield and excellent energy resolution, has a great potential in the observation of supernovae and other astronomical events through neutrinos. Here we report the building of a multi-messenger (MM) trigger system in JUNO, which can achieve unprecedented low energy threshold and monitor transient signals in real time from the entire sky via all neutrino flavors in a model-independent way.
