Description

In Summer 2020, Super-Kamiokande loaded 0.011% of gadolinium (Gd) in its pure-water Cherenkov detector in order to improves the detection efficiency of neutron produced by (anti)neutrino interactions. In case of supernova (SN), this improved detection efficiency should allow to increase the separation efficiency between inverse β decay (IBD) reactions and other interactions like electron scatterings. Such separation is expected to improve the SN direction pointing accuracy and to provide a clear signal from the SN neutrino bursts. In this presentation, we will report the improvements achieved by the Super-Kamiokande collaboration on the SN online monitoring using the Gd neutron capture information.
