Nuclear Non-Proliferation Conundrum:Asymmetric Initiatives and Problem Areas of Nuclear Non-Proliferation Regime

Description

Adeliberate effort has been made to identify the core causes and the consequent roots of nuclear proliferation, its related security concerns, and the international response to mitigate the nuclear technology's negative impact, leading to practical solutions. There is a need to forge a new consensus on the nonproliferation principles by the nuclear possessor states. This can happen through a dialogue between Nuclear Weapon States (NWS)and Non-NPT Nuclear Weapon States (Non-NPT NWS), i.e., India, Pakistan, and Israel. The study does not undermine the advantages of nuclear science, especially in the emerging challenges of the 21st Century, including the energy, water, and food shortages and complicated diseases in various parts of the world; it focuses on the discriminatory behavior of P-5 states towards the Non-NPT NWS. These challenges would continue to grow in new forms unless the major powers have a realistic evaluation of foreign policy objectives. It provides a detailed investigation of the international nuclear nonproliferation efforts, with the help of descriptive analysis to draw the claim that there is a dire need to take on board all the states having nuclear weapons in a legally bounding agreement to address the challenges of nuclear proliferation. Albeit, the social constructivist view holds that Non-NPT NWS along with NWS should be socialized into the positive-sum thinking of cooperative security under the umbrella of NPR. The article also elaborately covered the apprehensions to be addressed for enduring peace and international security.
