Thermalization of X-rays in hydrostatic atmospheres
Description
The problem of thermalization of radiation in a semi-infinite self-radiating hydrogen isothermal atmosphere is considered for the case of a hydrostatic plasma density profile. Conclusions are drawn about the value of the optical thickness at which the radiation can be considered as thermalized up to a given frequency. Solutions of the radiative transfer equations confirm the corresponding results.
