Description

Key to the Embolemidae species of the Middle East

1- Head dorsally almost flat and pyriform (Fig. 2E); eye small (Fig. 2D); TL long, OD= 11.1 (Fig. 2E); notaulus visible but very short (Fig. 2F); metapectal-propodeal complex dull, reticulate rugose, with two median longitudinal carinae (Fig. 2G).............................................................. - Head dorsally swollen (Figs 4E, 5E); eye large (Figs 4D, 5D); TL short, OD= 3.0–4.0 (Figs 4E, 5E); notaulus absent (Figs 4F, 5F); metapectal-propodeal complex smooth, shiny, weakly rugose, with some irregular striae only near metanotum, lateral areas, and apically (Figs 4G, 5G)......................................................................... 2

2- Frons without median furrow between antennal toruli (Figs 4C, 4E); fore wing with 2Cu cell enclosed by spectral veins (Fig. 4B); dorsal process of paramere with papillae and apically with bristles (Fig. 6B).......... Embolemus harteni Olmi [♂]

- Frons with median weak furrow between antennal toruli (Figs 5C, 5E); fore wing with 2Cu cell enclosed by pigmented veins (Fig. 5B); dorsal process of paramere with bristles but without papillae (Fig. 6D)............ Embolemus huberi Olmi [♂]
