STUDIES ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF BI-UNIVALENT SALTS IN AQUEOUS SOLUTION. PART V. CADMIUM ACETATE
Description
The nature of cadmium acetate has been studied from the E. M. F. measurements of the cells--
(A) \(Cd_xHg_y| Cd(NO_3)_2|| bridge||\)\(\begin{smallmatrix} Cd Ac_2(c) \\ HAc(c1) \end{smallmatrix} ||Cd_xHg_y\)
(B) \(Hg, Hg_2Ac_2| \)\(\begin{smallmatrix} CdAc_2(c) \\ HAc(c_1) \end{smallmatrix}||bridge||\)\(\begin{smallmatrix} NaAc(2c) \\HAc((c_1) \end{smallmatrix} |Hg_2Ac_2, Hg\)
and (C) \(Hg, Hg_2Ac_2| CdAc_2(c)HAc(c_1)|Cd_xHg_y.\)
The constants for the first stage of dissociation, CdAc\(\rightleftharpoons\) CdAc++Ac- is 1.0 X 10-1 and that of the second
stage, CdAc+ \(\rightleftharpoons\) Cd+++ Ac- is 1.7 x 10-2. These have been calculated from the study of the cells 'A' and
'II' on some assumptions. The study of the cell 'C' justifies these assumptions.
