STUDIES IN THE cycloHEXANE SERIES. PART I. THE SYNTHESIS OF cycloHEXANE-1: 1-DICARBOXYLIC ACID

\(cyclo\)Hexane-1:1-dicarboxylic acid has been synthesised by a new method. 1-Carboxy\(cyclo\)­hexane-\(I\)-acetic acid was brominated to the bromo-acid (I), which cut treatment with sodium carbonate affcrded the corresponding hvdroxy-acid (II). Alkaline oxidation of this acid yielded \(cyclo\)hexane-1 :1­dicarboxylic acid.
