Description
Treatment of \(\alpha\)-methyl-\(\alpha\)-ncetamido-\(\beta\)-phenylpropionic acid with a mixture of polyphosphoric acid and phosphorus oxychloride leads to the formation of I : 3-dimethyl\(iso\)quinoline, the process involving cyclodehydration, probably followed by decarboxylation and then dehydrogenation.
