A STUDY OF THE HYDRATED COPPER SALTS OF BF3O2-, BeF42- AND SO42- IONS AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES

The powder photography of CuBF₃O.5H₂O has shown that it is not isomorphous with CuSO₄.5H₂O: while CuBeF₄.5H₂O is isomorphous with CuSO₄.5H₂O_. All these three compounds, however, form mixed crystals. These three compounds were heated to 250°. The loss in weight of CuSF₃O.5H₂O suggests the formation of CuO. This has been verified by X-ray as well as by chemical analysis. CuBeF₄.5HO at 250^° affords a mixture of CuF₂, BeF₂ and traces of BeO. No anhydrous compound, such as CuBF₃O or CuBeF₄ has been obtained.
