The current study presents external symptoms of the activity of an evil spirit and the symptomatics of selected mental diseases. The symptoms of certain men­tal diseases may resemble demonic activity. The ability to distinguish the activity of an evil spirit from a mental disease is a basic skill. A mistake in this matter may have disastrous effects. Such a situation occurs when the exorcist performs the exorcism without a prior consultation with a psychiatrist. He presumes a priori the presence of demonic interference, which is not always the case. Therefore, it is of primary importance to familiarise oneself with basic symptomatics of the activity of an evil spirit and the symptoms of certain mental diseases.
