Linear Free Energy Relationships in SN2 Reactions

The rates of reaction of a number of nucleophiies with 2, 4-dinitrochlorobenzene and picryl chloride have been measured in methyl alcohol. Relative nucleophilic reactivity parameters, n_DNCB and n_pc, have been computed. The applicability of Bronsted catalysis law and Edwards equation has been discussed. Attempt has been made to correlate the rate constants with amino proton chemical shift.
