Taxonomy. Murina puta Kishida, 1924,

Erh-Shui, Chang Hua, Taiwan.

See M. harrisoni. Most closely related to M. huttonii, and some authors have suggested that they may be conspecific. Monotypic.

Distribution. Taiwan.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 59-61 mm, tail 32-36 mm, ear 17-19 mm, hindfoot 10-11 mm, forearm 33-39 mm. Pelage is long and flufty; dorsally medium brown or sometimes reddish to grayish brown (hairs with dark bases, tan middle band, and reddish tips); ventrally paler. Dorsal pelage extendssparsely on to wings, uropatagium, thumbs, and feet. Face is sparsely haired except long protuberant nostrils, which are naked. Ears are short, broad, and rounded, with smoothly convex anterior margins, no notch on posterior margin, with a broadly rounded tip; tragus is long, narrow, and tapering toward pointed tip. Wing attachesto base of claw on first toe. Skull is robust and broad. I? is anterior to I% basal area of C! is equal to or larger than that of P*; P* is more than two-thirds the height and basal area of P*.

Habitat. Restricted to temperate montane forests.

Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information.

Status and Conservation. Classified as Near Threatened on The IUCN Red List. The Taiwan Tube-nosed Bat has a relatively restricted range. It may be affected by deforestation, although this is no longer carried outto a significant degree on the higher elevations of Taiwan. The species has been regionally redlisted in China as endangered.
