Synthesis of (N-Aryl-N-1,3,4,5-Tetrahydro-2,4-Dioxo- 2H- 1 5-Benzodiazepin-3-yl) Arylsulphonamides and (N-Aryl-N- 1 ,2,3,4,6,7-Hexahydro- 5 ,7 -Dioxo-5H- 1 4-Diazepin-6-yl) Aryl-Sulphonamides

N-arylsulphonamides (Ia-If) were condensed with diethyl-\(\propto\)-bromornalonate, and the condensates (IIa-Ilf) were reacted with o-phenylenediamlne and 1,2-diaminoethane separately to afford (N-aryl-N-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-2,4-dioxo-2H-1,5-benzodiazepin-3-yl) arylsulphonamides(Illa-IIIf) and (N-aryl-N-1,2,3,4,6,7-hexahydro-5,7-dioxo-6H-1,4- diazepin-6-yl) arylsulphonamides (IVa-IVf) respectively. IIIA was also rearranged to 3[2'-(henzenesulphonyl) anil ino1-1,3_,4,5-tetrahydro-2H-1,5-benzodiazepin-2,4-dione (V). The structures were established on the basis of elemental analyses and Nmr studies.
