Schiff bases with molecular formula, HOC6H4CCH3 : NXOH [where X= —CH2CH2 —,— CH2CHCH3 and C2H5CHCH2 —] react with oxybis-(diacetoxyborane), [(AcO)2,Bl2O in 1 : 1 and I : 2 molar ratios leading to the synthesis of (SB)B —O —B(OAc)2 and [(SB)2B]2O [where SB= is the anion of the bifunctional tridentate Schiff base] types of the derivatives respectively. The diacetoxyboron Schiff base derivatives undergo exchange reactions with 1,2-dihydroxybenzene or 2-methylpentane-2,4-diol. On the basis of their elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations, conductance measurements and the infrared spectral studies, plausible structures have been indicated.
