Synthesis and Spectral Study of 1 -Methyl-2(R)-1,4 Dihydro-4-Oxoquinazoline Derivatives

Arborine which is 1-methyl-2-benzyl-1, 4-dihydro-4-oxoquinazoline, and its 6- and 7-chloro, 6- and 7-nitro, 6-nitro-7-chloro, 6-chloro-8-nitro, benzo(6, 7) and 6,7- methylenedioxy derivatives and other 2-substituted derivatives have been prepared by treating corresponding N-methylanthranilamide with the required acid chloride (RCOCI) in presence of a trace amount of pyridine in benzene. Their UV and IR spectral characteristics have been reported.
