South African National Survey of Arachnida Photo Identification Guide: The Eresidae of South Africa. Version 2: 1-46 (2022)

The family Eresidae is known from nine genera and 98 species. Five genera and 30 species
are known from South Africa and they are all listed on the World Spider Catalog
(2021).Three genera Paradonea (Miller et al. 2012), Seothyra (Dippenaar-Schoeman,
1990) and Stegodyphus (Kraus & Kraus 1988) have been revised. Of the 11 Dresserus
species nine are Data Deficient, known only from one sex or under sampled. Only two
species, D. colsoni Tucker, 1920 and D. kannemeyeri Tucker, 1920 have a wide distribution
and are of Least Concern. The three Gandanameno species have a wide distribution
and are also of Least Concern. Of the five Paradonea species only P. splendens
(Lawrence, 1936) is Data Deficient, the other four species have a wide distribution. Five
species of Seothyra are known from the region and two of them S. perelegans Simon,
1906 and S. semicoccinea Simon, 1906 are known only from one sex and therefore Data
Deficient. The six Stegodyphus species all have a wide distribution.
