Verbreitet in der subalpinenund alpinen Stufe. Bis 2510m: zwischen Gagenhaupt und Riffelhorn ob Zermatt (Oberson 1951). (Nach Keller und Schlechter Lit., Bd. II, 1935, S. 295, bei Zermatt bis 2600m.)
Var. microbracteatum Schur - l: Plex (Garns).
Var. Vaillantii (Ten.) Schinz et Keller (var. bracteatum Richter) - l: Barberine (P.). - 2: Unter dem Portail de Fully (Garns). - 3: Chanrion (P.); Meiden (P.).
Var.islandicum (Lindley) Schulze - 3: Saas-Fee (M:iller 1897). (Nach Soó in Keller und Schlechter l. c., S. 297, ist die Saaser Pflanze wohl eine blosse Monstrosität.)
