Description

18. Formica camelina.

F. nigra, elongata et gracilis; capite postice in collum angustato; thorace medio compresso; metathorace supra rotundato; pedibus elongatis; abdominis nodo globoso.

Worker. Length 5 lines. Black: elongate and slender; covered with a fine silky pile, which has a golden tinge on the thorax and abdomen; the antennae nearly as long as the body; the head oblong, much narrowed behind the eyes, the latter nearly round, and placed rather forwards on the face a little higher than the insertion of the antennae; the carinae above the clypeus with a less elevated one between them, the antennae inserted at the sides of the carinae. Thorax: much narrowed in front, forming a sort of neck, widened and rounded behind, broader than the meso- and meta-thorax, the latter somewhat swollen above and elevated above the anterior part of the thorax; legs very long and sprinkled with fine whitish hairs. The scale of the abdomen, viewed above, pear-shaped, broadest at the base; abdomen ovate, pointed at the apex, and sprinkled with pale glittering hairs.
