Camponotus (Myrmoturba) maculatus

Authors/Creators

Description

Camponotus (Myrmoturba) maculatus (Fabricius)

Medje, [[soldier]], [[worker]], [[queen]]; Yakuluku, [[soldier]], [[worker]]; Garamba, [[soldier]], [[worker]]; Vankerckhovenville, [[worker]]; Faradje, [[male]] (Lang and Chapin). Six of the workers from Garamba, all minors, were taken from the stomach of a toad (Bufo regularis). The major workers agree perfectly with Donisthorpei redescription 1 of the Fabrician type of this ant in the Banks Collection, presumably from Sierra Leone, except that they have a few short, erect hairs on the gular surface of the head.

The distribution of C. maculatus and its various forms is shown on Map 39.
