Description

Pheidole minax new species

types Mus. Comp. Zool. Harvard.

etymology L minax, threatening.

Diagnosis Similar to species listed in heading above, with following differences. Major: unknown.

Minor: occiput narrow, with nuchal collar, and rugoreticulate; most of rest of dorsal head surface rugulose, only locally and weakly reticulate; propodeal spines as long as propodeal basal face; promesonotum rugoreticulate; postpetiolar dorsum rugulose; all of central strip of first gastral tergite shagreened.

Measurements (mm) Holotype minor: HW 0.84, HL 0.82, SL 0.90, EL 0.16, PW 0.58. Color Minor: body medium reddish yellow, appendages light reddish yellow.

Range Known only from the type locality.

Biology Unknown.

Figure Holotype, minor. PERU: Estacion Biologia Cocha Cashu, Manu National Park, Madre de Dios, 400 m (Diane W. Davidson). Major unknown. Scale bar = 1 mm.
