* Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum, 1792) —European pilchard Sardinella aurita Valenciennes, 1847 —Round sardinella No specimens in the MMF collection but there is a specimen in SMNS 25227 (1) and the first author
has photographed the species at Madeira.
* Sardinella maderensis (Lowe, 1838) —Madeira sardinella
