Description

Encentridophorus (Encentridophorus) chelatus Walter, 1911

Records from the study area: Uttar Pradesh—K. Viets (1926a, b); Prasad (1974).

Remarks: K. Viets (1926a) identified a female specimen of Encentridophorus from Bihar as E. chelatus, a species known from the female sex only from Aru Island (Walter 1911). Viets' specimen is similar to the female of E. similis Cook, 1967 but has more acetabula (17 on each side). According to Cook (1967) Viets' record of E. chelatus from India should be regarded as tentative, because in the genus Encentridophorus females are difficult to identify.

Habitat: Ponds.

Distribution: India, Sri Lanka.
