Description

Aphaniotis acutirostris Modigliani, 1889 *

(Fig. 5 a–c)

Material examined. MNHN 2002.0426 (male; SVL 50.0 mm, TaL> 47 mm, broken), Maninjau, Province of Sumatera Barat, elev. about 650 m.

Taxonomic comments. The depressed snout, about 3.6 times as long as the diameter of the eye, the convex scale above the rostral and the 8 and 9 SL are typical of the species (see De Rooij, 1915).

Distribution on Sumatra. Provinces of Sumatera Barat (first record in this work), Aceh, and Sumatera Utara; also the islands of Nias and Simeulue, and the Mentawai Archipelago (De Rooij, 1915; this work).

Biology. This specimen was collected in August, at midday on the ground of a primary forest on the rocky slopes bordering the eastern shore of Lake Maninjau. Another male with large, green lateral bars, photographed but not collected, was seen during a morning of November, in activity on low branches in a windfall of a primary forest.
