Iphiseiodes saopaulus (Denmark & Muma)

Amblyseius saopaulus Denmark & Muma, 1973: 243; Moraes et al., 2004: 49. Amblyseius (Amblyseius) saopaulus Denmark & Muma, 1989: 32.

Adult female (10 specimens measured, in addition to a paratype).

Dorsum. Dorsal shield smooth, 371 (341–388) [390] long and 348 (300–375) [317] wide at level of s4; seven pairs of pores and 12 pairs of lyrifissures visible. Setae j1 23 (22–24) [25], j3 27 (24–31) [35], j4 3 [4], j5 3 [4], j6 3 [5], J2 3 [6], J5 7 [7], z2 3 [5], z4 3 [5], z5 3 [5], Z1 3 [6], Z4 143 (122–159) [137], Z5 206 (178–220) [212], s4 137 (117–156) [142], S2 3 [7], S4 3 [6], S5 3 [5], r3 3, R1 3 [7]. Setae r3 and R1 inserted in soft cuticle laterad dorsal shield. All setae smooth.

Venter. Sternal shield much wider than long and mostly smooth, with few anterolateral striae; with three pairs of setae and two pairs of lyrifissures. Distances between st1-st3 58 (54–61) [57], st2-st2 81 (73–85) [77]. Genital shield reticulated laterally and anteriorly, distance between st5-st5 105 (95–112) [95]. Ventrianal shield pentagonal, strongly reticulated, 132 (120–144) [125] long, 153 (137–163) [142] wide at level of ZV2 and 121 (102–132) [107] wide at median level of anus, with three pairs of pre-anal setae (JV1, JV2, ZV2) and a pair of pores posteromedad JV2. With two pairs of metapodal shields; two pairs of lyrifissures anterolaterad shield in soft cuticle. Peritreme extending to anterior of j3.

Chelicera. Fixed digit 37 [32] long, with 9 [9] teeth; movable digit 32 [32] long with 3 [3] teeth.

Spermatheca. Calyx funnel-shaped, 13 (12–17) long; atrium and minor duct distinct.

Legs. Macrosetae setiform, present on all legs: Sge I 64 (54–73) [75], Sge II 39 (32–44) [47], Sge III 61 (46– 73) [70], Sti III 35 (24–46) [32], Sge IV 124 (112–139) 132], Sti IV 82 (68–88) [80] and St IV 46 (37–56) [50] (Fig. 10). Chaetotaxy of genu II 2,2/0–2/0,1; genu III 1,2/1–2/0,1.

Male unknown.

Material examined. Brazil; ten females, Pariquera-Açu, State of São Paulo (24° 36’ 51” S, 47° 53’ 22” W), 4.iv.2001, on Crotalaria sp. (Fabaceae); three females, 4.iv.2001 and 9.x.2001, on Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi (Anacardiaceae); five females, 17.vii.2002, on unidentified plant, Monte Alegre do Sul, State of São Paulo (22° 40’ 50” S, 46° 40’ 45” W); two females, 28.vii.2006, on Mangifera indica L. cv. Bourbon (Anacardiaceae); one female, 1.xii.2006, on Bixa orellana L. (Bixaceae); one female, 26.vii.2006, on Pyrus sp. (Rosaceae); one female, 13.i.2006, on Sechium edule (Jacq.) (Curcubitaceae), Amparo, State of São Paulo (22° 42’ 09” S; 46° 45’ 52” W): one female, 8.vi.2006, on Passiflora sp. (Passifloraceae); one female, 8.vi.2006, on Prunus sp. (Rosaceae); two females, 8.vi.2006, Morus sp. (Moraceae), Pariquera-Açu, State of São Paulo (24° 43’ 14” S; 47° 52’ 43”): two females 5.x.2006, on Theobroma cacao L. (Malvaceae); two females, 5.x.2006, Garcinia cochinchinensis Choisy (Clusiaceae); two females, 5.x.2006, Pouteria sp. (Sapotaceae).

Remarks. Measurements of the setae of the specimens collected are close to those provided in the original description of the species, although the chaetotaxy of genu III, given here as 1, 2/1, 2/0,1 for the specimens collected in this work and paratype specimen, differs to that provided in the original description.
