Description

5. Pacificulla cervicalis Park, sp. nov.

(Figs. 9, 18, 24, 29, 35, 35 a)

Holotype. 3, Papua, Indonesia, Jembatan Dua, Cyclops Mts., nr Waena, 2°35ʹS, 140° 36ʹ E, 23 I 1996, at light; Indonesia, Papua, ZMA-exp. 1996., gen. slide no. CIS-6043/Park. Paratype: 13, same data as the holotype.

Diagnosis. This new species is superficially similar to P. geniola (Meyrick, 1931), comb. nov. (Fig. 11), in size and wing pattern, but it can be distinguished by the following: the forewing with more broadly occupied brownish basal fascia, the narrower median orange patch, the whitish fringe around apex; the hindwing with small distinct dark brown spot in median orange fascia. It is also superficially similar to P. z o n i a s (Meyrick, 1904), comb. nov. (Fig. 10), which has the median orange patch on the forewing nearly parallel sided. The abdomen of P. c e r v i c a l i s is differentiated from that of P. z o n i a s by the reddish orange color dorsally, except the first and last segments, whereas it is dark fuscous throughout in the latter. The male genitalia of the new species are very similar to those of P. geniola, but can be distinguished by the more slender uncus and the more apically narrowed cucullus.

Description. Adult (Figs. 9, 18, 24, 29). Wingspan, 10−11 mm. Head: Shiny orange white on frons, shiny grayish brown on vertex, with fuscous scales posteriorly. Antenna with basal segment dark brown dorsally, orange white ventrally; flagellum dark brownish in basal 2/3 length, then paler, without cilia ventrally. Labial palpus with second segment thickened, with appressed scales, long, gently recurved, orange white in basal 2/3, then blackish all around, acute apically; third segment absent. Thorax: Collar well-developed, shiny orange white. Tegula and thorax dark brown dorsally. Forewing elongate; ground color purplish dark brown; deep-orange median fascia narrowed towards costa, width at costa less than 1/2 that on ventral margin, lateral outer margin slightly serrate; costa nearly straight to 4/5 length, then gently arched, obtuse apically; fringe concolorous, except whitish around apex. Venation similar to that of P. callisomata, with R2 and R3+4 stalked; R5 and M2 absent. Hindwing similar in color and pattern to forewing; median orange fascia broad, almost parallel sided, width about 1.5 times of that of forewing, with dark brown spot medially below costa. Hind tibia with pale orange rough scales dorsally, with pale brownish scales apically. Abdomen: Yellowish orange, except blackish first and last segment.

Male genitalia (Figs. 35, 35 a) with uncus elongate, narrowed towards apex, slightly dilated apically, bent beyond 2/3 length, with setae sparsely along lateral margin, about 3/5 length of tegumen; apex round. Valva broad at base; costa gently concave at 1/3 length; ventral margin emarginated at 1/3; cucullus narrowed towards apex, bearing dense bristles. Juxta strongly convex on caudal margin, with narrow, long, weakly sclerotized latero-caudal processes, as long as uncus. Vinculum band-shaped. Aedeagus globular basally, nearly straight, longer than valva; cornuti a sheaf of needles, about 1/4 length of aedeagus.

Female genitalia unknown.

Distribution. Indonesia (Papua).

Etymology. The species name is derived from the Latin, cervix (= neck), referring to the yellowish white collar
