The community of tropical freshwater meiofauna in montane streams is regulated by streamflow and macroinvertebrates and not by sediment characteristics.

Stream in Puerto Rico have similar meiofaunal communities than those described for temperate streams. In agreement with studies in other regions, streamflow is a strong environmental driver of meiofaunal community structure. Unexpectedly, sediment characteristics were not related to meiofauna dynamics, but macroinvertebrate abundance were positively related with meiofaunal abundance, suggesting facilitation between the two groups.
