Acrochordonoposthia ramolia An

Description

Acrochordonoposthia ramolia An der Lan, 1958

(Figs 5 F–H)

Known literature. Acrochordonoposthia (?) ramolia An der Lan (1958): 163–166, figs 1–5

Known distribution. At 3200 m above sea level, north of the Ramoljoch, Obergurgl, Austria

Material. None

Remarks. The original description mentions that the animals are about 180 µm long, and completely transparent. The copulatory organ bears an oval-shaped seminal vesicle and a conical-shaped pouch. The cirrus bears fine sclerotized lumps in its proximal part and sclerotized spines in the distal part. The presence of prostate glands was not observed by An der Lan (1958). An der Lan’s (1958) figure 4 (our Fig. 5 G) shows a rather atypically-shaped copulatory organ, with an enormous and globular seminal vesicle. However, his figure 3 (our Fig. 5 F), which shows the habitus of the animal, depicts the typical ovoid outline of the copulatory organ, just as it occurs in other species of Acrochordonoposthia. Either the copulatory organ is indeed much more globular, a unique situation within Acrochordonoposthia, or it is an artefact caused by extreme squeezing of the animal, as An der Lan (1958) himself seems to suggest.
