Description

Genus Empis Linnaeus

Diagnostic characters. Proboscis long and very slender, heavily sclerotized, labrum much longer than head is high, labella slender; bristles present on the laterotergite; vein R4+5 forked, cell cup as long as or nearly as long as second basal cell, never only half as long.
