Description

Oryssomus calix sp. nov.

(Fig. 2)

Description of holotype (male). Length 3.82, width 2.81 mm. Form elongate oval, widest at middle of elytra, flattened dorsoventrally (Fig. 2 C). Dorsal and ventral general color reddish brown (Figs. 2 A, B). Outline of pronotum and elytron discontinuous. Antenna, mouthparts, hypomera, epipleura and legs reddish brown. Clypeus and frons joined at abrupt angle. Pronotum translucent; finely, densely punctured, punctures uniform in size, with a slight depression at lateral sides; pubescence of semidecumbent yellowish hairs; with black spot at base (Fig. 2 D). Elytra reddish brown with a black spot chalice-shaped in the middle, not reaching humeral callus (Fig. 2 A). Elytral punctures coarse, dense, slightly larger than on pronotum and similarly dense, uniform in size. Metaventrite finely, sparsely punctured medially and anteriorly; coarsely, densely punctured laterally and posteriorly with punctures large, often confluent; each puncture with long, yellow, decumbent seta. Abdominal ventrites coarsely punctured, punctures separated by about twice a diameter, punctures becoming coarser laterally and on last ventrite. First abdominal ventrite with postcoxal line extending beyond middle of ventrite (Fig. 2 E). Genitalia with basal lobe equal in length to paramere, lateral margin slightly thickened, parameres slightly curved in lateral view (Figs. 2 G, H); sipho sinuous, apex nearly membranous, unmodified (Fig. 2 F).

Female. Length 4.21, width 3.02 mm. Similar to male in all aspects externally. Genitalia with genital plates elongate, styli with setae; spermatheca elongate, unmodified (Fig. 2 I).

Etymology. The name of this species refers to the shape of black spot of the elytra.

Discussion. Oryssomus calix sp. nov. is similar to O. guillermo sp. nov. and O. unimaculatus, but is clearly distinguished by the chalice-shaped spot on the elytra, and the genitalia.
