Eupithecia satyrata ab./ var. subatrata Staudinger, 1871: in Staudinger & Wocke, Catalog der Lepidopteren des Europaeischen Faunengebiets 1: 197. Syntypes, at least 1♂, 1♀ (coll. O. Staudinger in MNHU, examined), Central Asia [Uzbekistan]: Ferghana; [Kyrgyzstan]: Alai Mts.; [China]: Ili region.

Eupithecia rivosulata Dietze, 1875, Stettiner Entomologische Zeitung 36 (4–6): 254, taf. 2, fig. 6. Syntypes 1♂, 1♀ (MNHU, not traced), [Russia]: Altai Mts. (treated as var. of E. satyrata in Staudinger & Rebel, 1901).

Eupithecia submelanochroa Vojnits, 1973, Folia entomologica Hungarica 26 (1): 211, figs 1c, d; 3c, d. Holotype ♂ (ZFMK, now in TTM, examined), [Kyrgyzstan]: Turkestan Oriental, Province Semirechgensee, Fort Narine (synonymised in Mironov, 1991).

Eupithecia mongolica Vojnits, 1974, Acta zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae 20 (3–4): 447, figs 1b, 2b. Holotype ♂ (TTM, examined), Mongolia: Central aimak, SE from Somon Bajanzogt, 1600 m. New junior synonym.

Eupithecia inculta Vojnits, 1975, Acta zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae 21 (3–4): 450, fig. 2. Holotype ♂ (TTM; examined), Mongolia: Central aimak, SE of Somon Bajanzogt, 1600 m (synonymised in Mironov & Galsworthy, 2013).

Misidentifications: Eupithecia aggregata: sensu Vojnits, 1975 (nec Guenée, [1858]); Eupithecia fuscicostata: sensu Vojnits, 1975 (nec Christoph, 1887).

A widespread and very variable Holarctic species. Specimens which we have seen from Mongolia, which were recorded erroneously as E. aggregata Guenée, E. fuscicostata Christoph (Vojnits, 1975), E. rivosulata Dietze (Viidalepp & Soljanikov, 1977) and E. mongolica Vojnits, are coloured light grey with distinct transverse lines on the wings. The male genitalia of this species are also variable, especially the cornuti on the vesica of aedeagus, as well as the shape of the eighth sternite in the male. Mongolia (aimags): Arkhangai, Tuv, Zavkhan.
