Leodice Savigny

Description

Genus Leodice Savigny in Lamarck, 1818 Emended Zanol et al. (2014)

Type species. Leodice antennata Savigny in Lamarck, 1818

Diagnosis. Prostomium steep truncated with three antennae and two palps. Antennal and palpal styles regularly articulated. Peristomium consisting of two rings with a pair of peristomial cirri present on posterior peristomial ring. Mx II with teeth present on anterior 2/3 to 3/4 of plate, posterior 1/3–1/4 lacking teeth. Lateral black dots usually present between posterior parapodia. Ventral cirri with inflated base and a conspicuous tip. Notopodial aciculae present at least in anterior end of body. Four types of neurochaetae: limbate chaetae, narrow pectinate chaetae, bi- or tridentate true-compound falcigers and subacicular hooks, plus aciculae. Compound tridentate chaetae, when present, only in median to posterior parapodia. Aciculae light or dark, if dark the anteriormost are always lighter than posterior ones. Subacicular hooks light or dark, bi- or tridentate. Pygidial cirri placed on pygidial shield.
