Autochloris vetusta Zerny 1931
Authors/Creators
Description
vetusta Zerny, 1931
(Fig. 41)
Autochloris vetusta Zerny, 1931b: 7 (Taf. 1, Fig. 12). Holotype male [by monotypy], no locality data, with four labels: “Pol.”; “ Mann, ab…eb. [indecipherable word], 1865”; and “Frh.v. [Freiherr von] Block 1791, Mus. Caes. Vind.”.
Current combination. Autochloris vetusta Zerny, 1931.
Condition of the type. Wings badly worn on both the dorsal and ventral surfaces.
Remarks. The original description gives the type as a female, which is an error. However, there is no doubt that the specimen here regarded as the holotype is correctly identified because it is the specimen illustrated in Zerny (1931b), and also it has a label with information provided in the original description.
The meaning of the first label is unknown. In the second, the holes made by the pin make it impossible to decipher what is written. It could mean that the specimen was illustrated by Mann, who illustrated many European Lepidoptera (but mostly microlepidopterans), if the word reads “abgeb.” (abgebildet, which means “illustrated”).
This species is remarkably similar to the illustration of Autochloris almon (Cramer, 1779) provided in the original description (plate 224, fig. F). It is unknown to us whether any of the types of A. almon still exist.
