Description
Genus Macrocheilus Hope, 1838
Macrocheilus asteriscus (White, 1844)
White (1844) originally described this species under the name Helluo (Acanthogenius) asteriscus from specimens collected by John Bowring in Hong Kong. Redtenbacher (1867) also described a junior synonym of this species Planetes crucifer from Hong Kong specimens, which was listed as occurring in Hong Kong by Gemminger & Harold (1868), Chaudoir (1872a); Andrewes (1924) pointed out the synonymy. Westwood (1853) quoted a letter from John Charles Bowring in Hong Kong about this species " Helluo (Acanthogenius) astericus found under large stones on a clay soil". Also listed for Hong Kong by Andrewes (1919a & 1920a), Bates (1892), Jedlièka (1963), Hua (2002), Hùrka (2003) and Häckel & Farka (2013).
Macrocheilus bensoni Hope, 1838
Andrewes (1920a & 1924) and Saha & Biswas (1985) noted Macrocheilus trimaculatus Olivier, 1790 (a junior synonym of this species) from Hong Kong. This species was listed for Hong Kong by Bates (1892), Andrewes (1919a), Hua (2002), Hùrka (2003), Yu & Tang (2002), Zhao & Tian (2010) and Häckel & Farka (2013). Another species Macrocheilus chaudoiri Andrewes 1919, which Andrewes (1919a) described from India, was listed as occurring in Macao by Andrewes & Scott (1924) and by Zhao & Tian (2010), but was not listed, even as a synonym, by Hùrka (2003). Material: 1 ex. W.T.L., 30.v.06;; 1 ex. W.T., 5.ii.08, under rock on hill top in ants nest; 1 ex. W.T 27.xi.11, under stone on hill top in ants nest;; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Wu Kau Tang, 23.xi.12.
