Quinqueloculina sp. 2 (Fig. 10:20, 21)

Description. Test robust, stout, quinqueloculine coiled with oval cross-section. Chambers inflated with deeply depressed, curved sutures. Aboral end slightly produced. Test wall has a patchy, rough texture with thick, widely spaced, irregularly developed, weak longitudinal costae. Large terminal circular aperture about half as large as test in plan view with peristomal lip. Dentition consisting of a short, T-shaped bifid tooth.

Remarks. This species resembles both Q. baccaerti and Quinqueloculina sp. 3, but can be distinguished by its stout, robust inflated test with a large circular aperture and well developed peristomal lip (Fig. 10:20, 21). Both Quinqueloculina sp. 2 and Q. baccaerti have a similar wall texture, weak costae, aperture shape and weakly inflated chambers. However, Quinqueloculina sp. 2 has a more diminutive test, the chambers are more inflated, the roughened wall texture is patchy in its development, the costae are more distinct but also more irregular and the aperture, peristomal lip and dentition much larger and produced (compare Fig. 8:3, 4 with Fig. 10:20, 21). Quinqueloculina sp. 2 has a similar wall texture, aperture shape, dentition and weak costae to Quinqueloculina sp. 3 but a more stunted, inflated test, with more deeply depressed sutures that curve, more irregular costae and the aperture, lip and dentition are much larger (compare Fig. 10:20, 21 with Fig. 11:1, 2).

Distribution within study area. Quinqueloculina sp. 2 was only found in relatively deeper waters of the CG and was absent from Heron and Sykes Reefs. The greatest abundance of this species was found at sites 15 and 19 in Wistari Lagoon.
