Description

Subtribe Taphurina Distant, 1905a

Remarks. The Taphurina was erected along with the Tryellina Moulds, 2005. Moulds (2005) placed the New World genera Dorachosa Distant, 1892, Dulderana Distant, 1905b, Elachysoma Torres, 1964, Imbabura Distant, 1911, Nosola Stål, 1866, Prosotettix Jacobi, 1907, Psallodia Uhler, 1903, Selymbria Stål, 1861, Taphura Stål, 1862a and the Asian genus Hea Distant, 1906b in the Taphurini. Since that time, Chalumalna Boulard, 1998, Chrysolasia Moulds, 2003, and Malloryalna Sanborn, 2016b have been added to the subtribe and the genus Hea has been assigned to the Cryptotympanini Handlirsch, 1925 (Sanborn 2013; 2016b) leaving 12 genera in the subtribe. Ten of the genera are monospecific with only Selymbria and Taphura containing multiple species. Taphura exhibits the greatest species diversity within the subtribe.
