Dance Movement Therapy in the Treatment of Senior Citizens

In this study, the researcher looked on the level of effectiveness of dance movement therapy to the treatment of senior citizens. Given the lower physical activity and sedentary life of older adults, it was an area of research to look for the effects of dance movement, a kind of physical activity, to their functional fitness. The focus of this research was the effect of dance movement therapy to the functional fitness of senior citizens through a quantitative study. In order to gather the necessary data for this study, the researcher used experimental method to conduct a senior fitness test to measure the functional fitness of these older people. After gathering all the necessary data, the researcher tabulated, summarized and analyzed all the responses to come up with the results. Majority of the respondents were aged 60 to 65 years old with 55% while the lowest age bracket of the respondents were aged 71 to 75 years old. Gender was equally distributed with 25 respondents. Majority of the respondents were weighted above 66 kg with 40% and the least were weighted 50 to 60 kg. Senior citizens who were not engaged in dance movement have risky healthy conditions and Senior citizens who were engaged in dance movement have no risky healthy conditions. Dance movement therapy is having the physiologic capacity to perform normal everyday activities safely and independently without undue fatigue.
