Trupanea Schrank, 1795: 147. Type species: Trupanea radiate Schrank, 1795 (= Musca stellata Fuesslin, 1775), monotypy.

Urellia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830: 774. Type species: Urellia calcitrapae Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (= Musca stellata Fuesslin, 1775), by subsequent designation (Coquillett 1910: 618).

Trypanea Agassiz, 1846: 40. (Unjustified emendation of Trupanea).

Tephritis (Trypanoidea) Bryan, 1924: 367. Type species: Trypeta crassipes Thomson, 1869, original designation.

Urelliosoma Hendel, 1927a: 118. Type species: Tephritis desertorum Efflatoun, 1924, original designation. [See: Merz 2001: 92].

Trupanea amoena (Frauenfeld, 1857)

Trypanea amoena var. kotoshoensis Shiraki, 1933:452. Syntypes. Taiwan (Kotosho) (NTU).

Distribution. AF, OR, PA: Widespread over Afrotropical, Oriental and Palaearctic Regions. AU: Northern Territory, Queensland.

Egyptian localities. Common throughout the country, particularly in: Coastal Strip: Alexandria, Burg, Hammam, Mariout, Mersa Matrouh, Nuzha. Eastern Desert: Fayed, Gebel Asfar, Geneifa, Ghoubet El-Boos, Ismailiya, Port Said, Serapium, Suez Road, Wadi Abu Nossour, Wadi Digla, Wadi Garawi, Wadi Hoff, Wadi Ibtadi, Wadi Rashid, Wadi Rishrash, Wadi Um Biar (Near Qussair), Wadi Um Elek, Wadi Zohleiga. Gebel Elba:?. Lower Nile Valley and Delta: Abu Rawash, Barrage, Birqash, Cairo, Ezbet El-Nakhl, Faraskour, Giza, Helwan, Kafr Ghatati, Kafr Hakim, Kerdassa, Maadi, Tisfa. Sinai: Ain Gedeirat, Arish, Rafah, Wadi Tih. Western Desert: Kharga Oasis, Nubariya, Siwa, Wadi El-Natroun. Upper Nile Valley: Aswan, Komombo.

Host plants. Bitterweed (Picris sprengeriana (L) Poir.), Bold-Leaf Launaeae (Launaea nudicaulis (L.) Hook. f.), hawkweed oxtongue (Picris hieracioides L.), fragrant oxeye (Asteriscus graveolens (Forssk.) Less.), jaffa groundsel (Senecio glaucus L.), lettuce (Lactuca spp.), Picris rhagadioloides (L.) Desf., purple starthistle (Centaurea calcitrapa L.), safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.), sow thistle (Sonchus oleraceus L.), stemless starthistle (Centaurea acaulis L.)..
