Asarcogryllacris (Asarcogryllacris) macilenta subsp. macilenta macilenta (Pictet & Saussure 1891

Authors/Creators

Description

Asarcogryllacris (Asarcogryllacris) macilenta macilenta (Pictet & Saussure, 1891)

Figs. 2H, 43L

Material examined. Indonesia: East Java, 1 female (lectotype) (Genève MHNG).

Discussion. In contrast to the illustration in Pictet & Saussure (1891), media anterior is not fused with radius in basal area, but is free although it runs very close to it (Fig. 43L). The vein that follows results from a fusion of a posterior branch of media anterior with an anterior branch of cubitus anterior and thus represents the vein MP+CuA1, which does not divide till tip of tegmen. There are seven syntypes in MHNG (Hollier 2011). I select the specimen that was obviously used to illustrate the original publication of Pictet & Saussure (1891) as lectotype. This specimen had been labeled before by Hubbel with a lectotype label (Hollier 2011) without publishing a lectotype selection. Characteristic for this taxon is the rather short ovipositor. The structures of male and female abdominal apices have been described by Gorochov (2005). Some details of tegminal venation are added here.

Description. Medium sized species. Tegmen (Figs. 2H, 43L): Radius releases RS in about mid-length of tegmen; both veins forked in apical area; media anterior sub-fused in about basal third with radius, veins attached to each other, but recognizable as two veins; shortly after media posterior divided from MA, it fuses with a short anterior branch from cubitus anterior, the fused vein does not divide till tip; CuA2 also remains single-branched; cubitus posterior undivided, free throughout; with 3 anal veins.
