Colophorina vittata (Crawford, 1912)

Distribution. Bangladesh (Mathur 1975), as Euphalerus vittatus); India: Tamil Nadu (Kandasamy & Thenmozhi 1985, as Euphalerus marginalis; Kandasami 1986, as Euphalerus marginalis), West Bengal (Mathur 1975, as Euphalerus vittatus), Uttarakhand (Mathur 1975, as Euphalerus vittatus); Nepal (3 ♂, Terai districts (Narayani, Janapur and Sagarmatha), Kathmandu to Hile, various stops in villages along the way, 26‒27.v.2001, Cassia fistula (D. Burckhardt) #2a(1); 3 ♂, 3 ♀, same but Kosi, Akibunkyabeshi, local name Baireni, 27°12’N / 87°15’E, to Shawa Khola, 27°17’N / 87°13’E, 300‒400 m, 31.v.2001, farmland with various trees and shrubs, Cassia fistula #6(1) [NHMB, dry mounted]).

Host plant. Cassia fistula, C. marginata (Fabaceae).

Comments. Kandasamy and Thenmozhi (1985) and Kandasamy (1986) reported Euphalerus marginalis Capener, 1973 from Tamil Nadu. The description by Kandasamy (1986) leaves no doubt that this is a misidentification of Colophorina vittata (Crawford, 1912), a species which was previously reported from India (Mathur 1975). This is supported by the host plant listed by Kandasamy (1986) as Cassia marginata (Fabaceae). Euphalerus marginalis is an Afrotropical species which develops on Burkea africana (Fabaceae).
