Gulf of Aqaba: Egypt (Marshall 1952, as Liza crenilabis), Israel (Ben-Tuvia 1975), Jordan (Steinitz & Ben-Tuvia 1955, as Mugil crenilabis).

Red Sea main basin: Egypt (Klunzinger 1870, as Mugil crenilabis), Sudan (Fowler 1931, as Mugil crenilabis), Eritrea (Ben-Tuvia 1975), Saudi Arabia (Roux-Estève & Fourmanoir 1955, as Mugil crenilabis).

General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Marshall, Marquesas and Gambier islands, possibly east to Hawaiian Islands.
