Red Sea main basin: Egypt (McCosker 1978), Saudi Arabia (Roux-Estève 1956, as Calloplesiops abulati). General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Line Islands and Tuamoto Archipelago.

Gulf of Aqaba: Egypt (Marshall 1952), Israel (Fishelson 1995), Jordan (Khalaf 2004).

Red Sea main basin: Egypt (Mooi 1995), Eritrea (Klunzinger 1884), Saudi Arabia (Rüppell 1828, as Pharyopteryx nigricans).

General distribution: Red Sea, northwestern Indian Ocean: Gulf of Aden.
