Description

Lecithocera dicentropa Meyrick, 1938

(Figs. 14 A–F)

Lecithocera dicentropa Meyrick, 1938. Institut des Parcs Nationaux du Congo belge 14: 14.

Material examined. 1♂ (holotype), Musée du Congo, Rutshuru (1285), 16–26.xii.1933, G.F. de Witte, Parc Nat. Albert; Congo belge: Kivu, Rutshuru, 1285 m, 16–26.xii.1933, G.F. de Witte; R. DÉT. 4080; P. 158; E. Meyrick, det. 1937, Lecithocera dicentropa Meyr., gen. slide no. CIS-7139/Park, in RMCA.

Diagnosis. Male (Fig. 10A). The species has a somewhat similar wing pattern as the preceding species, L. chloroscia, but the male genitalia are distinctly separable.

Redescription. Wingspan 15 mm. Abdominal segment between VII and VIII with modified sclerites (Fig. 14F).

Male genitalia (Figs. 14D, E). Basal lobes of uncus slender, concave in V-shape on caudal margin. Gnathos more or less short, bent subapically. Costal bar banded, slightly angled medially. Valva broad basally; cucullus narrowed toward apex, with more or less acute apex, densely haired on surface; sacculus banded. Juxta shield- shaped, deeply concave on caudal margin. Aedeagus strongly bent at basal 1/3; cornuti consisting of a long barshaped lobe, rounded chain with conic spines medially, and a curved row with short spines near apex.

Remarks. The species was described based on two males from North Kivu, DR Congo, and it is confirmed to be a Lecithocera species. In the original description, the date was erroneously written as “ 27.xii.1933 – 6.i.1934 ”.

Distribution. DR Congo (Nord-Kivu).
