Anax Leach in Brewster, 1815

Large, strong flying dragonflies (Fig. 61); most of the five New World species are widespread, including the two species recorded in Ecuador. Geijskes (1968) clarified the status of A. concolor; for a key to the species, see Needham et al. (2014). Habitat for the two species in Ecuador is mainly shallow, weedy ponds.
