Review of biometric and electronic systems of livestock identification

The whitepaper presents (i) a brief description of the main biometric technologies for human identification, (ii) a discussion of the main driving forces for livestock identification and their importance, (iii) the advantages and drawbacks of the traditional animal identifiers and the electronic RFID-based tags, (iv) a detailed description of the latest developments on biometric-based animal identifiers, and (v) a summary of research opportunities on livestock biometrics within the BioTrack project.
