Description
Xanthium spinosum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 987. 1753.
"Habitat in Lusitania." RCN: 7156.
Lectotype (Wijnands, Bot. Commelins: 87. 1983): Herb. Linn. No. 1113.3 (LINN).
Current name: Xanthium spinosum L. (Asteraceae).
Note: The type choice made by Wijnands (Sep 1983) narrowly predates a different choice of Clifford material (BM) made by Alavi (in Jafri & El-Gadi, Fl. Libya 107: 123. Dec 1983).
