Distribution: Global: Atlantic Ocean; from Cape Cod, USA, to northern Argentina in the western Atlantic and from southern España to South Africa in the eastern Atlantic; entering estuaries and littoral lagoons and ascending river courses; Costa Rica: To (Atlantic), 0– 3 m.a.s.l., Per, Dia. Occurrence and conservation status: Nat, LC.
