All males had a previous experiment of 3 days with a female at least 3 days before the experiment. The tested male was left in a test cage (Plexiglas, 50×25×30 cm; 100 lx; clean sawdust bedding; sound-proof chamber) for 10 min-habituation. An unfamiliar C57BL/6 female in oestrus (tested through vaginal smears) was then introduced. Vocalisations and social interactions were recorded for 3 min.
